At the garden of Torreblai, an ambitious and meaningful restoration project is underway: the recovery of an antique hydraulic irrigation system based on gravity, canals, and the intelligent use of natural water flow. This initiative seeks not only to improve the sustainability of the garden but also to revive an important piece of local hydraulic heritage.

Perched dramatically above the historic town of Xixona (Jijona) in Alicante province, the Castle of Xixona — often called Castillo de la Torre Grossa — is one of the town’s most emblematic landmarks. It offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into medieval frontier life along with sweeping mountain views. The fortress has Andalusian origins, built by the Almohads in the late 12th or early 13th century to control this strategic hilltop. After the Christian conquest in the 13th century, the castle was expanded and reinforced, becoming an important defensive stronghold on the border of the Kingdom of Valencia. 

A gentle ten-minute walk from La Torreblai leads you into one of the most peaceful corners of the countryside: the natural spring of Els Bassons. The path is easy and inviting, perfect for slowing down and soaking in the landscape.
